Diane Valenti, the founder of Llama Expeditions, uses her decades as a learning experience designer for Fortune 500 companies to personally craft and test every single itinerary. She makes sure that all the elements come together to create an unforgettable experience.
While our itineraries can be quite different from country-to-country, they share common characteristics.
Like the time we ate homemade paella in the home of a fisherman and his family in the Galapagos. Or, the night we camped in the porters’ village before we hiked the Inca Trail with them. Or, the tour we took conducted by children working as shoe shiners to see La Paz as only they know it.
We include an exclusive 1-hour cultural briefing before you go. (And an optional debriefing when you get back.) This briefing enriches your experience by giving you a way to understand why things are done the way they are done and fosters a deeper connection when you interact with locals.
Group size ranges from 4 to 12 so you don’t have to jockey for position to hear what your guide is saying or to see what’s going on.
Keeping our groups small also means that we all get to know each other and can participate in experiences that are just not possible to do with large groups.
We work with local guides and drivers, stay in locally-owned boutique hotels and home stays, eat in locally-owned restaurants, and support local community projects (especially those that help women and girls, whenever possible) so that you can feel confident that locals benefit from your visit.
We handle the details, including dealing with all those pesky logistical headaches that go into running a trip.
In addition, apart from your tour guides, tipping is covered, and nearly every meal is on us. No need to fret over constantly looking for ATMs – instead you can just relax and revel in the experience.
This includes having a detailed discussion to make sure that the trip you want to sign up for is suitable for you.
We tell you the good, the bad, and everything in between so that you can make an informed decision before you pay your trip deposit.
All of the guides were incredible. Augusto, Ruben, and Patricia are the best guides I have ever worked with from any country. On a scale of 1-to-10, it was a 15! It was a life changing trip for me.
We loved the whole thing; so difficult to choose what was the best!
Before the trip, we were ambivalent about a guided tour, but found that the guides really smoothed the way for us to get to places quickly and focus on the most important sites and events. If you can get our guides for future groups, do so – they really made the trip great!
